Nokia reveals Ozo, a high-end futuristic camera for filming virtual reality

Many of us got wondering of what Nokia is upto after selling handset business to Microsoft for $7.6 billion. Well,Nokia calmly replied that they were planning to focus on maps, network infrastructures and "advanced technology". Although Nokia didn't specifically reveal what tech exactly at the moment, Nokia came out with a banger, unleashing the first camera to shoot virtual reality.

At an event for entertainment industry in Los Angeles, Nokia announced Ozo, a next-gen camera for capturing audio and video in 360 degrees. The device which is currently in preproduction stage, is the dream of Nokia to be the default shooting camera for Hollywood, media and advertising industry. A formal launch and pricing will be unveiled later by Nokia. But no, the camera is definitely for consumer use. It will be priced at mid five figures in USD.
Here's the video which Nokia released reveling the first look of this camera.

     So, what is Ozo ?
Yes,it does look amazing. It is a spherical rig as size of a a cantaloupe, weighs around 6 pounds, has eight optical image sensors roughly an eye width apart. The best part is audio capture. Audio is captured in three dimensions by eight microphones embedded inside the camera. The result- clean finesse audio that helps you locate in space. If you hear a cat meowing behind you in Ozo-produced VR, look behind you- there will be a cat !

The selling point of this awesome camera is very high. For movie makers, the camera can give live monitoring; directors can view footage of the scene as it is shot directly on a virtual reality headset. Secondly, Nokia has assured that Ozo can render lower-resolution video for playback in minutes, rather can stitching digital images taking hours to complete. Ozo videos can be viewed on a headset like Oculus Rift or as a 3D video which can be posted on websites like YouTube.

So yeah, this little device is pretty much going to affect the movies and advertisements in the near future. The VR is much gaining popularity will make it even better. Even more excited for Nokia's new adventures now !
