Forget 4G , This is 5G !

When people in India are lacking behind on 3G and still surviving on 2G networks, San Diego held a conference of The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) agreeing on the primary definitions for the future of 5G standards of mobile networking. This conference was held from 10th to 18th June 2015, where a 12 member delegation sat together to discuss these definitions.

In terms of data speeds, the group decided that 5G compliant networks will have to provide data speed of upto 20Gbps !!! This speed is 20 times faster than the current 1Gbps specification for 4G. In actual terms of received data, the speed will be in the range of 100 to 1000 Mbps, depending on the factors like location, connectivity and compatibility. This is nearly 10 to 100 times the speed of 4G which is providing around 10Mbps speed.
This big increase in bandwidth is mainly for the 4K video contents and holographic technology. This specification is also set for data transmission to over 1 million IoT (Internet of Things) devices within a square mile radius.

As for formal naming, 5G will be named as IMT-2020. IMT-200 was named for 3G networks whereas 4G was named as IMT-Advanced.
The Korean company KT recently unveiled its own 1.17Gbps network which basically tries to fill up the gap between 4G and 5G. Infact, the early 5G demonstration will take place in the PyeonChong Winter Olympic Games in 2018. Korea is definitely leading the way for development of 5G on its own.
The final details of 5G will be confirmed in October, following the approval from 193 ITU member countries. The International spectrum for the 5G should begin around 2019 but the commercialized implementations are expected around the year 2020. Till then, enjoy this meme !
